We are seeking an experienced Group Transport Planner to join our team at James Wilby, this role reports to our Group Transport Manager and we are open to this being a part-time role over 5 days per week.
As Group Transport Planner, you will be responsible for routing and coordinating loads and drivers 24/5 and occasional Saturdays to this highest of industry standards and in the most efficient and safest of ways. This key role forms a vital part in our operational team and will be visible, resilient, driven, and a high performer.
The successful candidate with have a track record of transport planning and working with related Transport Management Systems (TMS) whilst ensuring absolute compliance with all relevant transport laws and regulations. They will have experience in planning flatbed rigids and trailers, Moffett and Hiab related work.

Communication: Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, as you will be responsible for communicating with our driver workforce, other departments, suppliers, subcontractors, and our customers.
Interpersonal skills: Good interpersonal skills and be able to build relationships with team members, other departments, sister hauliers and our customers.
Problem-solving: Strong problem-solving skills and be able to identify and address issues that may arise on a day-to-day basis. Analytical mind, able to see risk and mitigate it.
Time management: Excellent time management skills and be able to prioritise tasks and manage your time effectively. Ensuring that our driver workforce is not idling or adding extra miles unnecessarily. Well versed in driver’s hours and working time directive.
Organisational skills: Strong organisational skills and be able to manage multiple routes, drivers and jobs effectively. Excellent people resource planning, avoiding calendar conflicts and the unnecessary use of agency drivers. A self-starter.
Decision-making: Ability to make decisions that are in the best interest of our business, and when unsure, work with your manager or peers to get group think on the best outcome for all parties.
Adaptability: Able to adapt to changing circumstances and be a good team player through change and challenges. The ability to work under the pressure of a busy, time critical, transport operation is imperative.
Self-Management: Managing all aspects and tasks of the job role within a clear timeframe and begin responsible for your own self-improvement and progression with the support of your manager.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential
Route planning and drivers records: at least three years experience in Transport route planning is essential with a good understanding of the geography across the UK, drivers’ hours and records.
Commercial: experience of preparing quotations and understanding costs involved in performing a contract. Understanding sub-contracting of business and working to the company’s framework.
Transport logistics and technical regulations: a good knowledge of processes and procedures including fleet utilisation, fleet compliance and safety regulations.
IT proficiency: competent IT skills and knowledge of Transport Management Systems such as Vigo, TachoMaster, FleetCheck, Matrix Telematics, PDA’s.
Desirable
Membership: of an appropriate professional body such as the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport or having worked for a member of the Road Haulage Association would be advantageous.
FORS: experience and knowledge of the Fleet Operating Recognition Scheme, ideally working for a FORS Silver or Gold Operator.

Salary Band: £26,000 - £32,000 per annum depending upon experience, profit related annual performance bonus, company benefits including Group Life Assurance, Smart Health App, Entertainment Package, Day Off for Birthday, Free Car-Washing Facilities, Friends and Family Rates for Car Servicing & Maintenance
We have two temporary positions with the possibility of permanent contract available as a driver:
Class 1 driver - Thursday – Monday full time. Possible tramping required. Ideally you would have class 1 with HIAB.
Class 2 driver (with class 1 licence) – Monday-Friday full time. Tramping would be required. HIAB would be essential.
Pay rate are:
£12.00 class 2 flat rate (with HIAB £12.50)
£13.00 Class 1 flat rate (With HIAB £13.50)
